Mr. Shafqat Mahmood is currently Federal Minister for Education, Professional Training and Heritage. He is also a member of the National Assembly from Lahore. In a distinguished political career, Mr. Mahmood has been a member of the Pakistan Senate (1994-1999), Member National Assembly(2013-2018) and caretaker Federal Minister for Agriculture in (1996-97). He was also Punjab Minister for Information and Culture (1999-2000). He has represented Pakistan at the United Nations and at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. In the National Assembly he was a member of the Public Accounts Committee and special committee on electoral reforms. He has also twice been Secretary Information of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf.
Mr. Mahmood has taught at Government College, Lahore and Lahore School of Economics. He was a civil servant before resigning and coming into politics and served in various positions including Deputy Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujranwala and Islamabad and Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister Secretariat. He was also a writer and columnist for over a decade and political analyst on various Television channels before joining Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf in 2011.
Mr. Shafqat Mahmood has a Masters Degree in psychology from Punjab University (Government College, Lahore) and Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, and University of Southern California in the United States.
