Mr. Irfan Siddiqui’s Profile.

Mr. Irfan ul Haque Siddiqui, popularly known with his penname Irfan Siddiqui, was born in Rawalpindi (Punjab), He secured his early education from his native village. He completed his Masters in Urdu Literature and Bachelor of Education from the prestigious University of the Punjab, Lahore. He topped the University in B.Ed Exam and was decorated with a Gold Medal.

Mr. Siddiqui started his career from the field of Education where he remained associated with teaching assignments of various levels at Federal Government institutions. He decided to opt for voluntary retirement from the Government service in 1988 after an illustrious teaching career spanning over 25 years including last 18 years at F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, considered as one of the most prestigious higher education institutions. Later on, he also served as Director Education at Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) for a period of two years.

Mr. Siddiqui’s career as a professional journalist started with his association with the publications like weekly “Zindgi” and monthly “Qaumi Digest” owned and edited by renowned journalist Mr. Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami. In 1990, Mr. Siddiqui joined “Takbeer”, a famous political weekly working under the leadership of legendary journalist Mohammad Salahuddin Shaheed. While continuing his career with “Takbeer”, he started writing columns in daily “Jang” under the title of “Naqsh e Khyaal” in late 1997. His journalistic career was halted for a period of around three and a half years when he was appointed as Press Secretary to the President of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Rafique Tarrar in January 1998.

After leaving the Presidency in June 2001, Mr. Siddiqui joined daily “Pakistan” as its Resident Editor. This association was short lived as he started writing “Naqsh e Khyaal “ in daily “Nawa-e-waqt” as full time columnist in September 2001. In August 2008, he switched over to daily “Jang”. He has been regularly writing columns on political and social issues. In addition, he has been a regular participant in the various political talk shows aired on different news channels.

The President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan was pleased to confer upon him the prestigious award of Hilal-e-Imtiaz, in recognition of his meritorious services in the field of journalism and literature. He was honoured with various National and International award for his contribution as a leading Urdu columnist.

Mr. Siddiqui remained actively associated with Radio Pakistan as talker, feature writer and play writer. He wrote over 100 plays for radio which were widely acclaimed both by the general public and intelligentsia, including the renowned urdu drama writers Ashfaq Ahmed and Mirza Adeeb.

Mr. Irfan Siddiqui has also authored half a dozen books which include “Naqsh-e-Khyaal” , “Bhaid Bhari Awaz”, “Dairon Mein Safar”, “Jadoo Nagari” “Makkah Madina” and “Column Kahani.”

During his diverse career, Mr. Siddiqui has visited number of countries including USA, United Kingdom, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Afghanistan, South Africa, Uganda, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran and Thailand. He was officially invited by the governments of the United States of America and Iran separately on visits to their respective countries.

He has also conducted lectures on politics, journalism, education and other issues of social importance both in Pakistan and abroad.

Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on January 27th, 2014 appointed Mr. Irfan Siddiqui as his Special Assistant on National Affairs with the status of Federal Minister. He was appointed Head of a Committee constituted by the Prime Minister, to device a consensus Code of Conduct for Electronic Media. Mr. Siddiqui accomplished this huge task with the cooperation of PBA and succeeded to draft a consensus Code after almost 13years of the electronic media history. He was further elevated as Advisor to the Prime Minister and assigned to head the newly created Ministerial Division namely National History and Literary Heritage on January 5th, 2016. His appointment in this capacity has been hailed by various segments of society, particularly the literary and intellectual circles.
