           Islamic calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy, based upon the alphabet in the lands sharing a common Islamic cultural heritage. Pakistan too has a deep rooted tradition of classical art of Islamic calligraphy thanks to the continuous efforts of our master calligraphists. In order to encourage and promote the art of classical calligraphy in Pakistan the National History and Literary Heritage Division (NH&LH) in collaboration with National Book Foundation organized an exhibition of classical Islamic Calligraphic pieces of Pakistani calligraphists titled “Noon-Walqalam” from 24th-26th January, 2017 at National Art Gallery, Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Islamabad.


2.         National History & Literary Heritage Division invited about 65 Calligraphists from all over Pakistan and abroad. About 120 Art Pieces of traditional calligraphy were received as entries for this exhibition. Besides this, an interactive hands-on workshop was also organized under the supervision of master artists to demonstrate and impart the traditional calligraphy skills to the art students of universities based in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Furthermore, the Ambassadors, High Commissioners of various Islamic countries in Islamabad were also invited for the inaugural ceremony Dr. Halit Eren, Director General IRCICA Research Center For Islamic History, Art and Culture also participated. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
